It - Movie Review
“IT” is a 2017 horror movie based on the book "IT" by Stephen King. The movie tells the story of a small town called Derry. Though it appears to be just like any other town, it holds a dark secret and it is up to seven of the town’s kids to find out what it is and how to stop it.
The movie attempts to tackle the dark and complex story of Stephen King's “IT” and was met with great success. The movie was well received by critics and audience members alike. The film mixes the enjoyable and humorous moments created by the young cast with the terrifying and twisted moments featuring the movie's antagonist, "Pennywise the Clown". The movie uses bits of late 80s and early 90s nostalgia in the background and soundtrack of the movie in an attempt to capture the feelings of a classic coming of age story. Though these parts of the movie are good on their own, they throw off the tension that the movie is trying to build and creates a less scary atmosphere as a result. Though the movie has some clichés like the overuse of jump scares and a creepy old house, it manages to still give a fresh twist on the classic story that is “IT”. Though it is not a perfect movie, "IT"has proven itself an enjoyable and somewhat scary movie that I would recommend seeing.
